A Mississippi mother felt like breaking down in tears after her son’s teacher allegedly gave him a “Zero Award.” In an interview with WAPT, Patricia Buckley said the award in question had a negative impact on her son.
Buckley said she noticed there was something off about her son when she picked him up from Leake Central Junior High some two weeks ago. “Balled up like he was ashamed,” Buckley recalled, adding that her son’s teacher had given him “The ‘Zero’ Award.”
“I think it was so horrible for him to get this award,” said Buckley. The award read, “It’s impossible to be me. Don’t try. You’ll never find a solution.”
Now Buckley wants to know why her son’s teacher gave him the award because she feels it was wrong. Asked about the motive behind the award, Buckley said she couldn’t tell.
“That’s why I called the superintendent’s office to find out,” she said. “I’m going to do what I can do for this to never happen again. Not just to Bradley, but any child.”
Buckley also said she has had multiple conversations with the Leake County Schools superintendent, but she’s yet to receive a response on any solutions, WAPT reported.
Buckley added that she was informed this was the educator’s first teaching year. And though her son wants to remain in the school, Buckley said she might enroll him elsewhere because of the incident.
