Since February 2004, when the first accusation of sexual assault from Andrea Constand hit the public, the troubles of Bill Cosby have not ceased.
So far, over 60 women have come out to accuse the man, once admired as “America’s Dad”, of sexual assault, but that has not brought his many troubles to an end, reports ABC News.
Described by the judge who sentenced him to three to 10 years as a “sexually violent predator”, Cosby is now facing a legal bill of $2.75 million, as he marks the end of his first year in prison.
Cosby, 82, had challenged a California arbitration award that upheld nearly $7 million of a $9 million bill submitted by just one firm in the run-up to his first sexual assault trial in Pennsylvania in 2017.
The Daily Mail UK reports that although Cosby had claimed that the bill was “egregious”, a judge had sided with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, of Los Angeles, rejecting those claims.
A spokesman for Cosby, Andrew Wyatt, has refused to comment on the fee dispute, reports Fox Business. He has, however, said that the actor is holding up well in a suburban Philadelphia prison, mentoring other inmates as well.
Cosby was sentenced in 2018 for drugging and molesting a woman in 2004, but the Pennsylvania Superior Court is weighing his appeal of the 2018 conviction.
The Cosby Show star had more than a dozen women accuse him of sexual misconduct going back almost 30 years, and one case made it to a court, which convicted him for the 2004 sexual assault of Andrea Constand.
The now 82-year-old black man, who rose to fame in the 1960s becoming the first black actor to star in a drama series, fell into shame and in jail, for a crime he pleaded not guilty to. He had, however, submitted in a 2005 document to “obtaining sedatives to give to young women he wanted to have sex with”.
Cosby is the first and only celebrity during the #MeToo era to be jailed after dozens of top celebrities were named by accusers who said they were sexually assaulted.
