New L.A. metro station named in honor of Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle’s legacy and name continue to be immortalized after the Los Angeles Metro Rail announced that a brand new station in the city has been named in honor of the slain rapper, HipHopDx reported.

The station, which is situated at the Nipsey Hussle Square, will commute passengers at the Hyde Park K Line, per CBS News. The new line is among the eight stops that ply the route where some of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles are located. 

“From Slauson and all the way to Vernon, you will see world-class pieces of art, celebrating the history and the legacy of African American people,” Los Angeles Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson said. “Everybody who comes to L.A. and rides the train out of the airport is gonna see it. Is that alright?”

The announcement of the brand new rail comes after authorities closed the conspicuous alley that is close to the scene Nipsey Hussle was killed. The temporal closure of the alley took effect after the Los Angeles City Council passed a vote to give the green light, Los Angeles Times reported. And the decision was made as a result of incessant crime in the area. The alley will be off limits for 18 months as authorities work to ensure the area doesn’t pose any danger to both residents and visitors. 

Born Ermias Asghedom, Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019. The accused gunman, Eric Holder, was convicted of the Eritrean-American rapper’s shooting death in July, Face2Face Africa reported.

In an interview with Angie Martinez on her In Real Life podcast, the deceased rapper’s girlfriend, Lauren London, recalled Diddy reached out to her to share some words of advice before she delivered Nipsey Hussle’s eulogy at his funeral, HipHopDx reported.

“Somebody pulled me aside,” London said. “Puff, Puff pulled me aside and was like, ‘Look, Boog, you have showed everybody what it looks like to hold a man down and to love him. Now show them what it looks like when it all crumbles. That’s your responsibility.’”

She added: “I just felt like it was surreal. I can honestly say God was carrying me through that cause I didn’t even want to get dressed. I was going to wear sweats.”
