Rapper and musician, Nicki Minaj, in an Instagram post has revealed she is married.
Congratulatory messages began to pour in after she posted a clip on her official Instagram account showing hats with the inscriptions “bride” and “groom” and mugs that said “Mr” and Mrs.”
The news came as a surprise to her fans who expected her to have a lavish and public wedding.
Nicki announced in August that she had filed for marriage and will be tying the knot to her hubby, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty who she had been dating since 2018 in “about 80 days.”
A source revealed to PEOPLE that the rapper wanted the celebration quiet. “Nicki wanted to keep her wedding low-key,” the source said. “She’s become much more private over the last year, but she is very happy.”
An excited Minaj has raved about Petty, saying: “I’m very happy because my baby makes me so happy.”
TMZ reports Nicki and Petty met way back in high school when both were living in Queens, New York. According to sources, “Nicki and Kenneth still have great chemistry, despite all the years between their relationships,” the outlet wrote. “We’re told she was very stressed out before they got back together, but she’s much happier since rekindling their romance.”
Although little is known of Petty, he was convicted and sentenced to four years in 1995 for attempted rape at age 16. He also had a first-degree manslaughter conviction in 2006 in a fatal shooting that involved, Lamont Robinson – serving seven years of the 10-year sentence before he was released from custody in 2013.
