An encounter Morehouse College student Olufemi Yessoufou will forever cherish, what he thought was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime video-op with Oprah Winfrey ended up with him being gifted a brand new iPhone by the billionaire media mogul.
According to BuzzFeed, Oprah attended an event at Morehouse College two weeks ago where she was honored for her scholarship program she set up in the school in 1989. Still going strong, she even pledged $13 million to the program.
As she made her way out of campus in her vehicle after the event, Yessoufou and his friend managed to get her to stop for a selfie and also thank her for her philanthropic work. Visibly excited, the two guys even got her to say a few words, with the highlight of their encounter being when she unexpectedly roasted Yessoufou for having a cracked phone screen.
“Hey, Oprah,” Yessoufou said after hitting the record button. She responded with a “Hey” before saying: “That’s me. That’s me in your cracked phone.”
The boys then burst into laughter after her sneaky shade. After all, who wouldn’t want to be teased by Oprah?
Speaking with Buzzfeed, Yessoufou was full of praises for her.
“She showed us that she’s one of us. That’s a joke me or one of my brothers would have made to each other,” he said.
The video, which he shared on his Twitter page, went viral.
Thinking that was just about it, Yessoufou revealed someone from Oprah’s team reached out to him the day after he shared the video to let him know Oprah had a phone for him. How lucky could he be?
Keeping to her word, Yessoufou became the latest owner of an iPhone on Friday. Sharing the good news on Twitter, Yessoufou also showed a note the media mogul attached to the gift, which was more of an icing on the cake. We’re thinking he’ll probably frame the note!
“We can’t have you out here viewing the world thru a cracked screen or a cracked cover,” it read. “The new camera you’re gonna love for sure!”
Hoping to meet Oprah soon to also show her my worn-out phone. Take a look at Yessoufou’s new phone and the note it was accompanied with below:
