Police kills a 26-year-old emergency medical woman in ‘botched’ raid

An attorney has accused the Louisville Metro Police of conducting an improper raid that killed a 26-year-old woman who was a certified EMT working at two local hospitals. The woman identified as Breonna Taylor was shot eight times in her home.

Defense attorney Rob Eggert said police burst into Taylor’s home without announcing their presence and fired at least 22 times, with bullets going into neighboring apartments.

Clearly, a case of mistaken identity, Taylor’s family said she was not involved in drugs and believed the police were looking for someone else.

“She is a good kid,” said Bianca Austin, Taylor’s aunt. “This is incompetent police work. My niece lost her life over this.”

According to WDRB, an attorney representing the family, Sam Aguiar, disclosed that police were actually looking for someone else and other officers had picked the suspect up at his home in a separate raid shortly before the shooting.

“Something went terribly wrong,” he said. “This was clearly a botched execution of a warrant.”

Meanwhile, the union representing Louisville Metro Police officers has expressed its displeasure after a local judge released from jail an inmate who allegedly shot a police officer in the reported raid.

In a statement, it described the court ruling “a slap in the face of everyone wearing a badge.”

Walker, 27, was charged with an attempted murder of a police officer, Sgt. John Mattingly, who was shot in the leg.
