South Africans on Monday descended heavily on popular musician Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo after his girlfriend Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane, who is also a popular singer recorded him physically assaulting her on Instagram live.
In the video, Mampintsha can be seen repeatedly hitting the helpless lady while she screams and cries.
According to IOL, this is not the first time Mampintsha has been accused of laying his hands on her. Charges have however not yet been laid against him.
The incident was widely condemned by South Africans on social media with the minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa calling him out and encouraging Babes Wodumo to press charges against him.
“We’re absolutley horrified by the actions of Musician Mapmpintsha @MampintshaNuz caught on video where he brutally abuses Internationally celebrated Artist @BABESWODUMO. We do not only condemn this senseless act but call on @BABESWODUMO to immediately press charges against him,” he shared on his Twitter page.
“@GovernmentZA will never tolerate gender-based violence. It is informed by a twisted logic of patriarchal power relations in society. We call on all South Africans to isolate the perpetrators & to fight & defeat gender-based violence with the same zeal as when we fought racism,” he added.
Though the original video was later on deleted, those who were able to record/download it have been circulating it on social media. Take a look at it below:
