Ian Khama and Eric Masisi of Botswana
Botswana’s former president, Seretse Ian Khama, gained global acclaim for upholding the tenets of democracy after stepping down gracefully at the end of his 10-year term in April of 2018.
But having handed over to Eric Masisi, a man he once appointed as vice-president and education minister, Khama’s reputation is now under litigation.
A recent Botswana government investigation claims that while he was president of the country, Khama and his alleged cohorts set up bank accounts in Hong Kong and South Africa to finance terrorism.
But he has rejected all of the allegations and even threatened to sue Masisi’s government.
