In Uganda, disgruntled men make are generally the ones responsible for releasing nude photos of their exes to the media in a humiliating act that has come to be known as “revenge porn.” The latest victim is Ugandan singer Desire Luzinda (pictured), who has not only had to suffer the indignity of her private photos going public but also has the threat of arrest looming over her head, reports the BBC.

Luzinda’s boyfriend recently decided to release her private, nude photos to both newspapers Desire Luzindaand social media networks, causing major controversy and negative headlines for his former girlfriend.

The act has tarnished Luzinda’a previously clean image and prompted the Minister of Ethics Father Simon Lukodo to call for her arrest in light of the country’s strict anti-pornography laws.

About the response she has received since the photos were leaked, Luzinda says, “Some are very compassionate, but you cannot base [your predicament] on that. Definitely some will be very heartless, very judgmental, very disappointed. I hope I can face it.”

Domestic Violence Prevention Executive-Director Tina Musuya weighed in on the matter, saying that with the trend happening more to women, women have to be particularly careful about taking pictures, “Anyone you are smiling with today, can be the same bad person to leak your pictures tomorrow.

“But then if we took those pictures, and they are leaked to the media, there [should be] a law to protect us.”

Meanwhile, Luzinda is currently hiding from authorities.
