Besides being an extraordinarily talented actor, Samuel L. Jackson is also known for his unapologetic use of curse words both on and off screen, and with the general elections in the U.S. just a few months away, the veteran actor wants to use that for a worthy cause – get people to register to vote.
Taking to his Twitter on Monday, the Avengers star offered to teach his fans and followers how to swear in 15 different languages if 2,500 of them register to vote. Prior to his offer, he shared an earlier tweet urging his followers to check their voter registration status or register to vote and enticed them with “a very special ‘tutorial’” as a small token.
Keeping to his promise, the 71-year-old shared a tutorial video on Tuesday after the target was met. “You guys showed up and blasted through our Voter Action Goal for #GoodToVote! So as promised, here’s some Cussin’ 15 ways to go! Thanks for getting involved and make sure to #vote on Nov.3rd!,” he captioned in the video.
For almost two minutes, Jackson cursed in languages including Basque, Vietnamese, Swahili, Nepali, Jamaican Patois, Icelandic, among others.
Jackson’s initiative is in partnership with HeadCount, a “non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy.” The organization claims they have so far gotten over 700,000 people to register.
Vocal Trump critic
Jackson has never shied away from calling out Donald Trump. In an interview with Esquire in 2019, the actor was asked about his no holds barred approach when it came to criticizing the U.S. president and as usual, his reply came with the usual trademark expletives.
“I think we feel the same way that all of the m*therf*ckers that hated Obama felt for eight years. So they said all that sh*t. They put f*cking pictures up on the Internet of Michelle sitting with her legs crossed with a d*ck hanging down. We feel the same way that they feel or they felt about Obama being the man, even though he wasn’t f*cking ruining their lives; he was trying to help their lives,” he stated.
“This m*therf*cker is like ruining the planet and all kinds of other crazy sh*t. And the people think that’s okay. It’s not f*cking okay. And if you’re not saying anything, then you’re complicit.
“And I wouldn’t give a f*ck if I was a garbageman and I had a Twitter account; I’d tweet that sh*t out. I’m not thinking about who I am and what my job is when I do that sh*t.”
Asked if he was concerned about his criticisms of Trump getting on the wrong side of his fans, 70-year-old Jackson said he has nothing to lose.
“I know how many m*therf*ckers hate me. “I’m never going to see a Sam Jackson movie again.” F*ck I care? If you never went to another movie I did in my life, I’m not going to lose any money. I already cashed that check. F*ck you. Burn up my videotapes. I don’t give a f*ck,” he said.
“You’re an actor. Stick to acting.” “No, m*therfucker. I’m a human being that feels a certain way.
“And some of this sh*t does affect me, because if we don’t have health care, sh*t, and my relatives get sick, they’re going to call my rich ass. I want them to have health care. I want them to be able to take care of themselves. This is how I feel. And I count to one hundred some days before I hit “send,” because I know how that sh*t is.”
