Shared Interest Hosts Benefit Fashion Showcase Featuring South African Designers

Shared Interest, a leading New York-based nonprofit social investment fund, will host a Southern African Fashion, Craft and Jewelry Showcase to benefit their work on Friday, November 13th at 7:00 PM, at New York City’s STUDIO ARTE Loft on West 37th Street. U.S. and African supporters and fans of the region’s fashions will gather for this celebratory benefit to recognize the creativity of NY-based entrepreneurs who improve and empower communities in Southern Africa. Brand South Africa is a sponsoring partner and Face2face Africa’s Sandra Appiah will host the runway.

“Southern African women demonstrate their creativity and credit-worthiness on a daily basis. Shared Interest celebrates emerging leaders in the fashion and craft sectors, who blend their artistic and entrepreneurial talents, heritage, and vision for the future, “explains Shared Interest’s Executive Director, Donna Katzin.

The evening will feature four designers all representing the entrepreneurial spirit and beautiful designs that are gaining recognition in the United States. Adds designer, Angelo Lambrou,” The African spirit is very much alive! And it can make a difference in the world on all levels if given the chance.”

Angelo Lambrou began his fashion career in South Africa in 1986. Now based in NY, his signature collection includes hand-crafted couture wedding and evening gowns and cocktail dresses. Emerging designer, South African Phumelele Kunene debuted her collection at this year’s New York Fashion Week. Her passion is manifest in the creation of BlackPhumelele Clothing Line, based in Brooklyn. Soweto-born, Thulare Monerang launched her original Fashion Deli store in Cape Town in 2011 and will soon open her second Fashion Deli location in NYC. Farai Simoyi is a rising star of the catwalk with her self-titled clothing line, Farai, and is currently senior designer for hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj’s fashion collection.

For tickets, visit www.sharedinterest.org/events. Individual tickets are $50.00. Space is limited.
