A six-year-old Alabama boy, who was hit by a car while he was trying to save his sister from being knocked down by the very same vehicle, received a hero’s welcome after he was discharged from the hospital.
According to Fox News, the incident occurred during a family event, and Kayden Reid’s family said the minor went after his two-year-old sister after he realized she had ran into the street.
“By the time everybody else saw [Kaycee] in the street, Kayden was right there … He ran right into the street to save her. But in the process of getting her out of the way, he got hit by the car,” the children’s mother, Kayla Giles, told Fox & Friends in an interview.
“We’re just thankful that we have both kids [home and safe] today.”
The minor’s aunt also told KKTV they don’t blame the driver for the incident. “It wasn’t her fault,” she said. “We’re just thankful that she stopped when she did to make sure that everything is OK with him and us.”
Kayden thankfully sustained a few scratches after he was hit by the car. And for his bravery, the six-year-old received a hero’s welcome from his community as well as local firefighters. “I had to go get her before she got ran over by the car. But that’s when the car hit me,” Kayden told Fox10 News.
Kayden was given an exclusive tour of one of Mobile Fire/Rescue’s fire trucks and was also given a front-row view from the driver’s seat.
“The family reached out to us after we had responded to the scene and after we transported him [to the hospital] … The family reached out to us after this remarkable feat,” Public Information Officer Steven Millhouse told Fox & Friends.
“He’s definitely a hero,” Millhouse added. “He’s got the heart of a hero.”
Kayden also expressed his gratitude to everyone for watching him.
