The militant Somalia-based group al Shabaab convicted and ordered the killing of a woman after their court found her guilty of polyandry.
The court ruled that Shukri Abdullahi Warsame, who was accused of marrying 11 times, without divorcing previous husbands, should be killed by stoning.
She had pleaded guilty to the crime.
Al-Shabab fighters in Sablale town, in the country’s southeastern region, buried the woman deep in the sand and pelted her with stones until she died.
It is not the first time such a cruel punishment had been meted out by the militant group.
In 2014, the group also stoned a 33-year-old mother for marrying four men in the southern town of Barawe.
Just like Warsame, she had pleaded guilty to her crime after the men she had married testified against her.
Another incident took place in 2017 at the town of Saakow, some 400km south of the capital, Mogadishu. The mother of eight had been married to a second man after leaving her first husband due to lack of support.
