Sandra Bland by Kai Davis, Nayo Jones and Jasmine Combs

The police say they found her hanging in her jail cell. And black folk everywhere erupted in grief. The voices calling her murder, carried her smiling pictures as proof. They called it suicide. We called it murder. What if it was both- Kai Davis, Nayo Jones & Jasmine Combs

Sandra Bland was a 28-year-old African-American woman who died in police custody. Her death was ruled as a suicide, but people including her family claimed it was murder.  In this poem, the poets explain how trauma caused by gender-based violence and oppression can drive one to the brink of death.
