Summer HoTness: African Tees Invade Wardrobes

The T-shirt is a summer staple. A crisp v-neck dressed up or dressed down has “effortless chic” written all over it. African designers are taking the chic tee movement to another level with prints and iconic designs that can take you through the season. You’ll love them so much, you’ll even be layering them in the fall.

Definition Africa’s new Matutu Airways (pictured top) tee takes you on a journey with an imaginary airline who assures you they are with you “buli stage…bulu Daily” (“every stage, every day”). Sure to be a travel staple, pair this tee with Italian Carerra’s, a chunky necklace, and a pencil skirt.

Kenyan designer, Jeffrey Kimathi’s Jamhuri Wear (pictured above) just launched an amazing collection of custom hats and screen printed tees. Our favorite is the bold Ankara Blossom shirt. Any man who can walk in the place owning this shirt is definitely ready to set swag on fire.

British-born designer Abenaa Pokuaa is adding some Kente in to the mix with her Ohema Ohene T-shirts (pictured at left). With authentic Kente shipped from Ghana that details the sleeves and luxury cotton blends, this tee is sure to be on the festival circuit.

Not to be outdone, high-fashion luxury label Givenchy has incorporated the African warrior spirit in to this abstract design (pictured above). With the $500 price tag, we hope the French fashion house has included instructions for the T-shirt to actually put itself on you as well!
