These ’80s fashion trends are in vogue today – here’s how to wear them

The 1980s was a decade that saw everything being magnified from the previous era.

The hair was big; the makeup was loud. The jewelry was meant to make a statement and the clothes ranged from big ruffles and shoulder-padded jackets or dresses to the denim fever right down to colored sunglasses.

Interestingly, the ’80s fashion trends are seemingly seeping its way into the 21st century but usually with a modern twist.

Some parents still have some ’80s souvenirs at home, go grab them and watch how you can make them wearable today like these looks:

Denim

Denim in the ’80s had patchwork, some acid-washed while others were distressed. All the same, the ’80s couldn’t get enough of denim and almost everyone owned a denim jacket at some point.

Power suits

Women in power suits today make a statement anytime they wear them. Whether it is in the formal setting or not, you can’t deny the powerful presence and appeal power suits command.

Let’s not forget our ultimate power suit inspiration in the ’80s when Melanie Griffith made an appearance in the 1988 movie Working Girl.

Oversized Blazers with shoulder pads

Blazers are wardrobe must-haves because they can be worn all year round and paired with almost any clothing item.

With the ’80s blazers though, the shoulder pads and overly loud colors would get you noticed anytime you walk into a room.

Headbands

The accessories in the ’80s were worn to make a statement. The headband look is back as many celebrities like Zendaya have been spotted in them. You can go for the regular ones or the padded headband, have a go at any for that desired ’80s look.

Off-shoulder dresses

Off-shoulder dresses were usually worn to classy events or dinner dates in the ’80s but now they have transcended from dresses to tops and have been made into on-the-go clothing styles that can be worn both day and night.

Big sleeves

The sleeves of dresses and tops were literally drooping from the shoulders of clothes in the ’80s. Today, big sleeves are in vogue but in a more subdued way. These puffy styles can even be seen on sweaters.
