These are the most corrupt countries in Africa

Transparency International (TI) has released the latest report of the Corruption Perception Index.

According to the anti-corruption organization, the list ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption from the lenses of experts and business people. 

This year’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) reveals that a majority of countries are showing little to no improvement in tackling the menace. The analysis shows corruption is more pervasive in countries where big money can flow freely into electoral campaigns and where governments only listen to the voices of wealthy or well-connected individuals.

TI measures how likely society will punish corrupt government officials as well as how high are its overall corruption levels.

Their investigations indicate that there is a direct correlation between war and corruption: countries that are war-torn, have compromised or “weak” courts and police, and lack an independent media.

The 2019 CPI has Somalia as the most corrupt country in the world.

New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland rank as the least corrupt in the world.
