This Engineer-Turned-Entrepreneur Is Changing Plant-Based Vegan Cheese

Research by Future Market Insights notes that there is an increasing demand for Vegan CPG. However, there is always a supply deficit. The demand for plant-based vegan comes as thousands of people switch to plant-based diet plans to stay healthy.

This is where Dianna King comes in with her plant-based cheese brand. She is the founder and CEO of UNrestricted which makes plant-based vegan cheese products, putting her among the few black people who own a plant-based vegan cheese brand in America.

The Atlanta entrepreneur says she went into plant-based vegan because she wanted to tackle the supply deficit by providing the best quality products for veganism enthusiasts, people with food allergies, and anyone who wants to improve their health.

Although Dianna’s venture into offering vegan products was inspired by the market demand, it was also influenced by the decision to become vegan at a time when it was not even trendy.

She also has a family history of cancer, she does not want to see anyone else go through the pain of losing a family member because of the lack of local vegan shops, according to Black Business.

“I have a family history of cancer, and it has inspired me to make the change to a vegan diet in June 2016. However, plant-based foods were not accessible and popular during that time. I couldn’t help but feel that if plant-based foods were more accessible in my community, I could have potentially saved my father and many more people in a similar situation,” she noted.

Eat UNrestricted offers plain Mac and Cheese kits, over Chipotle Mac and Cheese, to Better Cheddar sample packs as well as a range of popular vegan recipes.

Diana is an engineer. She graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Prior to starting her vegan brand, she was a food connoisseur before anything else.

According to Diana, presenting actionable solutions to the rising demand for healthy, quality vegan products was a good part of the inspiration behind the founding of Eat UNrestricted. It also feeds into her childhood dream of making an impact through entrepreneurship.

“I am an electrical engineer by trade. However, I have always been an entrepreneur and foodie. I remember founding the first physics class at my community college during my time as a high school and college student simultaneously through the dual enrollment program offered by my local college. My parents were also leaders and showcased it daily as entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry,” she said.
