This Thursday, Join NYC Professionals for the Friends of Africa Benefit Gala: “Energy For Africa”

New York, NY-(11/10/2012) – The African Affairs Committee of the United Nations Association Southern New York State Division Young Professionals (“UNA-SNY Young Professionals”) cordially invites the public to our 4th annual Friends of Africa Benefit Gala, “Energy For Africa”.

The Gala will be held at NYU Kimmel Center's Rosenthal Pavilion, located at 60 Washington Square South between Thompson St. & Laguardia Pl), New York, NY, on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 7:00PM.

Please join UNA-SNY Young Professionals as we honor Dr. Abeeku Brew-Hammond, Board Chairman- Energy Commission of Ghana, and member of the UN Secretary General's High Level Working Group for the Sustainable Energy For All (SEFA) Initiative. The Keynote Speaker of the evening is Dr. Stephen Gitonga, Policy Advisor, Environment and Energy group, Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to "Elephant Energy", a non-profit based in Denver, Colorado and Katima Mulilo, Namibia. The night is being hosted by MTV Base Africa's Vanessa Mdee, along with music and entertainment by a DJ. The gala will feature a silent auction, raffle prizes, and refreshments.

The Gala’s lead sponsor is Arik Airlines and is co-sponsored by NYU’s Africa House and NYU Wagner Student Alliance For Africa (WSAFA).

The event is expected to host over 150 guests, including ambassadors and high profile individuals.  The evening will focus on celebrating achievements of providing sustainable energy throughout Africa, and will encourage students and young professionals to dedicate their efforts towards creating and promoting positive change in Africa. The Gala will provide an excellent opportunity for students and New York professionals to interact with individuals who represent the best of energy sustainability efforts within the global African community.
