With comedy queen and actress, Tiffany Haddish, hosting the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the event was nothing short of endless laughter and hilarious trolling.
The event, which was broadcast on television on Monday, June 18, had several memorable and very, very funny moments with Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan leaving their mark.
Besides individual awards won by the Black Panther duo, the movie itself swept the highest honour of the event, the Best Movie award.
Join Face2Face Africa as we highlight some powerful and hilarious moments of the night.
Being the first black woman to host the show, Haddish surely did not disappoint. One of the best moments of the night was her Black Panther opening sketch where she challenged King T’Challa to a ritual combat among others. Also featuring in the sketch were her Girls Trip co-stars Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Enough of the spoilers, take a look at the video below:
Boseman walked away with the Best Hero award for his role in Black Panther. He dedicated it to Waffle House hero James Shaw Jr., who was present at the event.
“Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes we have in real life,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Shaw is famously known for disarming a gunman during a Waffle House shooting incident in Tennessee which left four people dead and two injured.
The Black Panther star received the Best Villain award and could not help himself but rightfully troll disgraced comedian Roseanne Barr when delivering his acceptance speech.
“I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain. I thought for sure Roseanne had this in the bag,” Killmonger jokingly said.
Barr was recently in the news for all the wrong reasons after going on a full Twitter tirade hurling racist insults at former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. ABC subsequently cancelled her sitcom Roseanne as a result.
