Top 5 African wetlands that should be protected at all costs [Photos]

The world is celebrating Wetlands Day, set aside to raise awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet.

However, some of these wetlands are at risk of disappearing thanks to human encroachment and climate change that has seen dramatic drop of water surfaces. According to UNESCO, wetlands are disappearing at a rate of 1% per year, which is at a higher rate than deforestation.

Africa is home to a number of wetlands, which adds to the tapestry of African diverse nature. Here are some popular wetlands that the Africans should protect.
