Top 5 countries in Africa with the highest population of poor people

Many African countries are still struggling with poverty.  The face of poverty is complex and changes over time; however, the most common aspect is the lack of access to basic human needs.

The most common causes of poverty are mismanagement of money, corruption, and conflict. The changing environment and climate is also a contributing factor to increasing levels of poverty.

According to a World Bank report in 2016, the poverty levels across the continent reduced between 1990 and 2012.  However, the number of poor people on the continent has been rising, mainly because of increased population.

The World Poverty Data has ranked the countries according to the number of poor people, and a country in Africa is leading.
