According to statistics, the Caribbean has the second highest HIV prevalence after sub-Saharan Africa and one of the lowest percentage of people with suppressed viral loads in the world.
Some of the factors that lead to the increased HIV prevalence in the region include violence and stigma. Quite a number of people living with the condition are unable to access treatment.
Although there has been progress in the fight against HIV/Aids, quite a number of challenges need to be addressed, including homophobia, transphobia, stigma and discrimination.
Here are some of the Caribbean countries that have the highest HIV prevalence in the region, according to The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
