“United We Walk” to Fight Against Lupus

New York, New York- Thursday, September 20, 2012

On Saturday, October 20th, 2012 join team Butterfly Walkers as they “Walk to Cure Lupus” at the South Street Seaport located on the lower east side of New York City. Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the walk at 10:00 a.m. rain or shine. The team is walking in support of Judith Mills, founder of the Butterfly Walkers for the Alliance of Hope for Lupus. She is a lupus warrior and an active lupus advocate since 2003. Register with the Alliance for Lupus Research New York Walk.

Diagnosed at the tender age of 17, today Judith continues to fight, educate, and bring awareness to this underrated disease in which the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal healthy tissues. The effects of living with Lupus are severe including joint and muscle pain; fatigue and weakness are symptoms amongst others that patients deal with. Although the disease cannot be cured, it can be treated with medication. The cause is unknown; however statistics show women of African descent are more likely to be diagnosed with Lupus than any other race. It has become an increasingly popular disease and it’s a threat among the black race.

In addition to the NYC walk on October 20th, join Cindy Lamptey in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 as she walks for Lupus on behalf of Judith Mills and her organization. Register with the Alliance for Lupus Research Atlanta Chapter walk. Also on Sunday, October 14th, 2012. Judith Mills herself will be at the Nomahegan Park in Cranford, NJ for their “Walk for Lupus Now” with the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA).  For more information on how you can get involved please visit here .
