British actor, Idris Elba, has suggested that the world should at least set aside one week every year to quarantine everyone in remembrance of the COVID-19 disease once the pandemic is over.
The star, alongside his wife, Sabrina Elba, have recovered from the virus after they tested positive in March. Speaking to AP about the virus and the recovery processes, Elba said although their cases were “very mild”, the experience was “definitely scary and unsettling and nervous”.
“You know, everyone’s feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval,” Elba said.
“I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember him. Remember each other. I really do,” he continued.
“I think it’s… other species use it. It’s called hibernation. But it does remind you that the world doesn’t tick on your time,” he added.
His comment generated mixed feelings on social media with some saying he “wasn’t living in the real world”.
Elba, who also participated in the global One World: Together At Home event on Saturday announced that he and Sabrina were helping to raise $200 million to support rural farmers trying to cope with the COVID-19 outbreak.
This amount is different from the initial $40 million in funding from the United Nations International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), Sky News reported.
Idris and Sabrina Elba are currently recuperating in New Mexico.
