‘We are all strengthened and inspired by you’ – Beyonce, other celebs stand with Meghan Markle

After the highly anticipated Meghan and Prince Harry tell-all interview, several high-profile celebrities including Meghan’s best friend Serena Williams, Beyonce, and Amanda Gorman have publicly shared their support with the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry.

In the interview, the couple spoke about their lives inside the palace, including making bombshell revelations about racism within the Royal Family, mental health, and how the last few years of their relationship have been like. 

Beyonce’s show of support is the latest to come in as the “Lemonade” star posted her solidarity message on her website alongside a photo of the pair at The Lion King live-action U.K. movie premiere in July 2019.

“Thank you, Meghan, for your courage and leadership,” the statement read. “We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”

Meghan’s best friend Williams, the US tennis star who has won 23 Grand Slam titles, said she understood the “pain and cruelty” Meghan had experienced.

In a note type of message posted on both her Instagram, she captioned it, “I am so proud of you for being so brave, I know it is never easy. You are strong- both you and Harry. I love you. I adore you. Your friend S.”

US Inaugural poet Gorman also added her voice in a tweet, saying, “This isn’t Meghan’s princess ‘happy’ ending. But sometimes change, the decisions that bring us the most hurt, aren’t about happiness, but healing.

“Unclear if this will change the Royal family, but Meghan’s strength will certainly redefine family everywhere,” she said. “Think of the women who will be inspired to stand up for their lives, the partners who will be kinder & more courageous than the kin they were born into.”

TV host Nina Parker said many Black women know exactly what Meghan is talking about and so it is easy to “side” with her. “You know why Black women believe Meghan? Because we know exactly what microaggressions look like. And how they slowly drive you insane.”

The ‘trauma’ expressed by Meghan at some point in the interview did not elude Booker-nominated author Maaza Mengiste. “What Meghan’s expressions are showing is trauma. She’s been traumatized and has no real vocabulary – still – for understanding what’s been happening to her. It’s racism, yes. It’s classism, yes. It’s also something as deep & as dark as those and as old as the royal family.”

Other celebrities were outraged by the whole experience as well.
