A former NFL player, Jack Brewer, was full of praises for President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House, going as far as calling him the “first black president” of the United States of America.
According to the Washington Times, Brewer, who played as safety for the Minnesota Vikings, shared those sentiments during a round table talk between Trump and some of his key and popular black supporters at the White House Cabinet Room on Thursday.
Brewer, 41, who is also an ordained minister, conferred the ‘title’ on Trump based on his apparent prison reform record.
“I’ve been a Democrat all my life but I’m not a Democrat now,” he said. “You’ve changed me. You touched me. And you made my work go to another level. You inspire me. And every time I go into those prisons and I ask my guys how many of them had their sentences reduced and they raise their hands, I know I’m doing God’s work and I thank you for that.”
Getting to the end of the discussion, he remarked: “I’ve got to say this because it’s Black History Month. Man, you’re the first black president.”
His statement was received with a thumbs-up applause and cheers from the other attendees. Trump also smiled and replied with a “Thank you.”
The Thursday meeting was also attended by the likes of Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece Alveda King, conservative radio hosts Diamond and Silk, among others.
Silk, who spoke before Brewer’s declaration, also explained why blacks should vote for Trump.
“You did ask four years ago, ‘what the hell do we have to lose?’” she said, making reference to Trump’s 2016 campaign message to African Americans, according to Fox News. “But if we don’t vote right this time, we’re going to have a hell of a whole lot to lose.”
“Make sure you vote right so you won’t get left,” she concluded.
