YouTuber ordered to pay Cardi B $4M in defamation suit files for bankruptcy to dodge settlement: Report

Tasha K, the YouTuber who was ordered by a jury to pay Cardi B $4 million after the rapper won a defamation lawsuit against her, has filed for bankruptcy in an attempt to dodge the payment, Billboard reported.

The award-winning rapper filed the lawsuit against the gossip blogger in 2019 after she took to her YouTube page to allege Cardi B was into drug use and prostitution, adding that she also had STDs. The YouTuber, whose real name is Latasha Kebe, lost the court case about eighteen months ago. 

In Thursday’s bankruptcy filing in Florida federal court, she claimed she has under $60,000 in overall assets to disburse. Tasha, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, claimed she cannot fork out over $3.4 million in liabilities to settle her creditors – which include Cardi B.

The YouTuber stated she has to pay the Invasion of Privacy rapper $3,380,642 as a result of a “judgement.” Though Cardi B explicitly stated in a tweet that she was coming for everything after the jury ruled in her favor in January 2022, Thursday’s filing means it could take time before the rapper receives the entire money owed to her.

Tasha claimed all her assets were valued at $58,595, with a sizeable amount of that money being apportioned to a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado that is linked to collateral to an auto loan that has not been paid, per Billboard. She also listed her other property as $11,750, claiming that it includes two Louis Vuitton purses and a bank account that contains $95 cash. 

Aside from her assets and liabilities, Tasha also claimed she had $10,000 in her “Google (owners of YouTube) account”, but that money was retrieved by Cardi B’s lawyers last year. 

In the 2019 lawsuit, Cardi B’s lawyers accused Tasha of engaging in a “malicious campaign” on social media and YouTube in an effort to tarnish their client’s image. The 30-year-old’s lawyers said multiple efforts to have Tasha remove her videos proved futile. 

In one of the videos that were highlighted in the lawsuit, Tasha claimed Cardi B performed sex acts “with beer bottles on f—ing stripper stages.” She also claimed in different videos that the Grammy award-winning rapper had tested positive for herpes, engaged in prostitution, committed adultery, and used drugs.

Cardi B ultimately won the lawsuit after jurors determined Tasha was liable for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. A subsequent attempt from Tasha to appeal the decision was thrown out by a federal appeals court.

Tasha had also initially claimed she was going to continue pursuing the case “all the way to the Supreme Court if need be”, and no matter how long it takes. However, Thursday’s filing means the legal process would have to be put on hold.
