The best-loved African guitarist was the first among great musicians from Mali to get fame abroad. He toured the west and won his first Grammy in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category for his 1994 collaboration with Ry Cooder, Talking Timbuktu in 1995.
The late musician’s second Grammy came in 2006 in the ‘Best Traditional World Music Album’ for his album ‘In the Heart of the Moon.’
In 2011, Touré won another Grammy in the ‘Best Traditional World Music Album ‘for his album ‘Ali and Toumani’
