21-year-old Nigerian man fatally shot in UK

A 21-year-old Nigerian man, Oluwamayowa Adeyemi, has been shot and killed in the UK. Adeyemi was fatally shot at 23.30hrs on Friday 5 June in Brackenfield Close, E5, detectives investigating the murder said.

Adeyemi, who was also known as Samson, was found suffering gunshot injuries outside his Hackney home in Clapton, east London.

The Nigerian was later pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting despite efforts of medics and officers to keep him alive, The Hackney Gazette reported. A post-mortem disclosed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine, leading the investigation, said: “Following initial enquiries we know that there were people in Brackenfield Close at the time of the shooting.

“I would urge those people and anyone else who has information that could progress this investigation to get in contact immediately.

“This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of a young man’s life and has left his family and friends devastated. If you can help us find those responsible, then please get in contact.”

Homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have released an image of a car they believed was used in the murder of Adeyemi. The car, a large Volvo estate, was recovered by detectives on the morning of Saturday, 6 June after it had been abandoned in Cowper Road, N16 bearing the false registration plate EX18EXE.

“The Volvo was found abandoned the morning after Samson had been fatally shot late on Friday night. When it was discovered by police it was bearing a false registration plate and in the days and weeks beforehand may have been on different plates.

“The car is a large estate vehicle and had some distinguishing features in that there were scuff marks to both corners of the front bumper and the front passenger door mirror was held on with tape.”

Police Borough Commander Marcus Barnett described Adeyemi’s death as “a concerning time for Hackney residents,” adding, “Our thoughts remain with the victim and his family during this devastating time for them.”
