Bahia Palace

One of the best-preserved historical monuments in Marrakech, Bahia Palace was built between 1886 and 1887 and was commissioned by Si Moussa, a former slave who had managed to rise through the ranks to become Moulay Hassan’s chamberlain, and later the grand vizier. Abu ‘Bou’ Ahmed, another slave would become vizier and would refurbish the original palace to the degree which visitors can see today. One of the most appealing features of the palace is its splendid grand courtyard with its beautiful white Carrara marble floor. Its courtyards and rooms boast of intricate woodwork, stained glass, hand-carved wooden wall coverings and beautiful cedar wood ceilings. There is a harem section which is the most lavishly decorated as the vizier’s many concubines and wives was once housed there.
