Sarah Bouyain
The Franco-Burkinabé writer and film director worked as a camerawoman for several films before eventually directing her own films. Born to a father, who was half Burkinabé and half French and a French mother, Bouyain originally studied mathematics before moving to cinematography. In 2000, she created the documentary film Les enfants du Blanc before writing her book Metisse façon in 2003 after researching her African heritage in Burkina Faso. Her first feature film is Notre Étrangère (The Place In Between, 2010), which was about a biracial young French woman who goes back to her roots. Premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, the film took seven years to make, according to Bouyain, who has also written so many articles, especially those that bothered on issues of mixed-race and exile.
