NEW YORK – The Africa-America Institute will convene its Second Annual Talent Summit, a premier event for mid-career professionals seeking employment in Africa, on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 9:00am-4:30pm, at New York City’s Baruch College.
The Summit panel discussions will address some of the hottest career sectors in Africa, ranging from health care and pharmaceuticals to information technology and energy and power. The World Bank estimates that 2.5 million new engineers and technicians alone are required to achieve key development targets in sub-Saharan Africa.
As Africans in the Diaspora increasingly consider returning home after living abroad, AAI’s Second Annual Talent Summit will offer a roadmap to making a successful transition to working in Africa as well as promote outstanding African talent to help solve the skills gap and human resource needs of Africa-focused organizations and companies operating in the U.S and on the African continent.
During the panel discussions, Summit attendees will learn from top industry experts on talent management and recruitment about career opportunities and hiring trends in Africa; get an insider look into technology and innovation on the continent; and engage in a conversation with expatriates and repatriates on making a continental career change.
Potential job candidates will be given unparalleled access to networking and conversations with top recruiters, including General Electric (GE) Africa recruitment team, for employment opportunities in the U.S and Africa countries.
Author and journalist Dayo Olopade will shine a spotlight on the tremendous innovations already taking place across the African continent from her newly-released book, The Bright Continent: Breaking Rules and Making Change in Modern Africa, during a fireside chat and networking luncheon.
“For our second annual Talent Summit, we’re offering panel discussions to give potential job candidates insight into what knowledge and skills are needed to make their career transition to working with Africa-focused companies and institutions and what it takes to be competitive in today’s global economy,” said Amini Kajunju, AAI President and CEO.

The cost for General Admission is $25 ($35, at the door). The All Access Career Admission is $40 ($50, at the door), includes general admission plus access to recruiters, including General Electric (GE) Africa recruitment team. All access career admission registrants are entered into a drawing to win a roundtrip airline ticket to destinations in Africa served by Arik Air.
