In school, Tania Speaks was bullied by her peers for her bushy eyebrows. She later tried to cut off her eyebrows but ended up cutting herself and was sent to a hospital. Years down the line, she has turned her traumatic experience into a startup. She is the founder of organic skincare brand Tania Speaks Organic Skincare.
She developed an eyebrow gel that helps to stimulate hair growth and also helps tame the brows. The product became an instant hit, prompting Tania to develop other skincare products such as beard growth oil, cleanser, toners, and moisturizer, according to Meaww.
Tania appeared on Shark Tank on Friday to pitch her skincare products. She appeared on the show seeking $400,000 for a 10% stake in her brand. She managed to convince the toughest Sharks, Kevin O’Leary aka Mr. Wonderful and Mark Cuban.
The 19-year-old impressed the Shark Tank investors when she revealed that she made $1 million in sales last year and made $1.4 million in sales this year. According to her, she netted $700,000, leaving the Sharks speechless. Tania said it cost her $1.50 to manufacture the gel, but she sold it for $26, Meaww reported.
In response to her pitch, Kevin said he was “humbled” by her beginnings while Mark praised her for her business skills. He further urged her to get her products lab-tested to support the claims of the gel stimulating hair growth in 3 weeks just to protect herself from any lawsuits in the future.
Despite being impressed with her product and delivery, none of the Sharks were willing to bet on her so they all sat out on the deal. However, just when she was about to leave the stage, Mark suddenly made an offer.
Mark wanted to help Tania with the legalities of her business, so he made an offer. He asked for a 20% stake in exchange for the $400,000 investment. He also made a surprising offer for Tania to meet his two daughters and spend some time with them so they could all learn from each other.
Tania accepted the offer and renegotiated it by tweaking it to a 15% stake in exchange for $400,000 which Mark accepted.
