Arizona woman killed in car crash reportedly survived shooting a month earlier

An Arizona mother who was killed in a car crash on July 3 had survived a shooting that left two people dead a month earlier, the deceased woman’s sister told FOX 10 Phoenix. The deceased, identified as 41-year-old Tesha Jeffrey, was reportedly riding in a Lyft rideshare when a Chevrolet Camaro allegedly ran a red light and crashed into their car and a third vehicle.

“She was very outgoing, outspoken, a goofy personality,” Jeffrey’s sister, Chonte Flores, said. “She was a daughter, she was a friend, she has a lot of people who love her and are hurting. She was a good person, and a lot of people were robbed from time with her.”

Jeffrey and two other people died in the car crash. “Something so simple as stopping,” her sister said. “You know, people’s lives are changed forever.”

Flores also said her sister had initially survived a June 3 shooting that took the lives of two people, and was recovering from a gunshot wound on her leg at the time of the fatal car crash.

“She was just recuperating from that, and now this, exactly what, a month and a day after each other? It’s devastating,” Flores said.

Police said Jeffrey wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the car she was riding in was hit. Flores has since urged people to prioritize their safety when on the road. “Put your seatbelt on. Who’s to know, maybe if she had her seatbelt on, she would still be here,” she said.

The driver who ran the red light was released, pending the outcome of toxicology tests, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. “Our hearts are with the victims’ families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Lyft said in a statement after the crash.

“We have reached out to the families of the rider and driver to offer support, and stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.”

A GoFundMe has since been set up to help raise funds for Jeffrey’s family, as well as her funeral.
