The coronavirus pandemic may be keeping us indoors, but it’s most definitely not preventing us from thinking “outside the box” and being creative as we impatiently wait for everything to get back to normal!
Whether you’re into animations or not, it’s highly likely you’ve either watched or heard about one of Disney’s most popular musical animations, The Lion King. A childhood favorite, the recent 3D remake of the film, which was voiced by superstar celebrities including Beyoncé, Donald Glover, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, brought back some nostalgic memories of some of our favorite characters.
With the main characters in the movie – Simba, Scar, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, Mufasa, among others being four-legged – have you ever imagined them in a human-like form with two legs and arms whilst draped in smart and casual clothing?
A very fascinating concept, this has been brought to life by Marco Bernard, an LA based freelance illustrator. Speaking to POPSUGAR after sharing his illustrations on Instagram which have since gone viral, Bernard said he got the inspiration while watching the TaleSpin animation series as well as the Beastars anime show.
“In [Beastars], there was a group of vicious lions, and I wondered what it would be like for Scar to be the leader of those lions,” he said.
His illustrations and project, which he calls Pridelands, have been so well received that they have inspired some followers to start developing stories around the characters.
“[The response] has been incredible,” he told POPSUGAR. “I feel like in the world of COVID-19, people have a little something to look forward to with my drawings.”
