Women

At 19, Haley Taylor Schlitz made history as the youngest Black graduate of SMU law school

Haley Taylor Schlitz is a young and accomplished woman who has made a name for herself in the legal field. In 2016, at the age of 13, Haley graduated high school and started her undergraduate education at Tarrant County Community College’s Northeast campus. After one year at TCC, Haley applied to and was accepted to over 15 undergraduate institutions as a transfer student

She decided to attend the Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, where she not only excelled academically but also broke records. In May 2022, she graduated from the institution with honors and became the youngest-ever student of the university and the youngest black student to graduate from the law school.

Haley attributes her success to her mother, who has been her biggest motivator and supporter. Her mother, an ER doctor, has been a source of inspiration and guidance throughout her journey.

Haley’s ambitions are not limited to her personal success, she wants to use her law degree to help other students and fight for equity. She encourages people to take advantage of opportunities and not to be afraid to take chances. Her message is clear, “You don’t find your path. You make it. Take life by the reins, by the horns, and just really make what you want your reality.”

The importance of having black people obtaining degrees and occupying prominent spaces in society cannot be overstated. It is essential to have diversity and representation at all levels of society, and especially in fields such as law, where decisions can have a significant impact on marginalized communities.

In the case of Haley Taylor Schlitz, her graduation from law school with honors and her status as the youngest black student to graduate from the institution is a significant achievement. Not only does it break barriers and set new standards for success, but it also opens up new opportunities for other young black people who may see themselves in her and be inspired to pursue similar paths.

As a future lawyer or judge, Haley would bring a unique perspective and understanding of the issues faced by marginalized communities. Her presence in the legal field would contribute to a more just and fair society, where everyone is treated with equality and respect. Her voice would be a representation of those who have been traditionally underrepresented in the legal field.

Having a diverse range of perspectives and experiences in the legal field is crucial in order to ensure that the laws and policies are fair and just for all members of society. The presence of black people like Haley in these fields serves as an inspiration to others, and it is important to continue to support and encourage young people like her to reach their full potential.

A new generation of black people is emerging, one that is more capable of dealing with the challenges of life and is proving to be promising in terms of ensuring financial stability and moral progress. These young men and women are breaking barriers and setting new standards for success. They are not only excelling academically, but they are also making a difference in the world by fighting for equity and justice.

They are showing that with hard work and determination, anyone can achieve success, regardless of their race. These young people are not only leading the way for themselves, but they are also paving the way for future generations. They are proving that the color of one’s skin does not define one’s potential or limit one’s ability to make a positive impact on society. These young people are a source of inspiration and hope for all of us, and they are helping to build a brighter future for everyone.
