Brother of Ghanaian Striker Brutally Beats Reporter for Asking Sacrificing Castro Question?

Baffour Gyan (pictured right), the younger brother of Asamoah Gyan (pictured), Ghana national team captain and striker, has been arrested for allegedly leading a group of men in the brutal beating of Ghanaian journalist Daniel Kenu, after Kenu reportedly asked Gyan about rumors that he sacrificed rapper and friend Castro.

Earlier last month, Castro — real name Theophilus Tagoe — and his alleged girlfriend went missing while on a vacation with their old friends Baffour and Asamoah. The pair were last seen jet skiing around the Ada Estuary area, but after a month-long search for the bodies, police declared them dead and suspected they had accidentally drowned.

However, a number of ritualists and spiritualists have come out after Castro’s disappearance claiming to know the whereabouts of the singer and his female companion. Among these spiritualists is noted television Pastor, Reverend Ebenezer Adarkwah Yiadom who refers to himself as a prophet and leads a popular church in Ghana. Although he has not come out to say where they are yet, Yiadom says that he has more information about the alleged disappearance but won’t divulge anymore information until Castro’s family comes to him for guidance first.

But Yiadom’s statements haven’t stopped the rumor mill from running on overdrive.

The main theory is that Gyan allegedly orchestrated the ritual sacrificing of Castro for black magic purposes, possibly for financial benefit.

And while that theory doesn’t make much sense, it has caught on nonetheless, with the public actually calling for the arrest of the two Gyans and the Reverend so that police could get to the bottom of the story.

At the recent press conference ahead of Ghana’s African Cup of Nations qualifier last week, things became even more bizarre and tense when well-known Journalist Daniel Kenu questioned Gyan about this rumor.

In fact, one headline reporting on the press conference read, “Did You Sacrifice Castro for Riches? – Journalist Asks Asamoah Gyan.”

WorldSoccer reports:

Kenu is reported to have said: “This will not be in a good taste…It has nothing to do with the upcoming match but I wish to appeal to Asamoah Gyan to clear the air.. There is this allegation that you sacrificed Castro for whatever reason…………”

The Ghana FA told Gyan to ignore the question but a furious Gyan had to be restrained after he tried to confront the reporter.

A couple of days later, at the Ghana-Uganda match, Denu was allegedly attacked by Gyan’s brother Baffour and a handful of other men. Here’s how the Daily Graphic, Kenu’s paper, described the aftermath:

Before he could reciprocate the gesture, Baffour butted in Ga, literally translated, “Paddy, what sort of stupid question did you ask my brother,” and before Mr. Kenu could respond, [Baffour] followed with a hefty slap.

It was a hellish moment for Mr. Kenu as Baffour and his machomen launched [a] series of hefty punches on him, while Addo pretended as a peacemaker restraining Mr. Kenu’s assailants.

But for the intervention of one Stephen Asante, a reporter at the Ghana News Agency, who prevented the thugs from smashing Mr. Kenu’s Sumsung tablet on the ground and causing further harms to his body, a fatal incident would have been recorded.

While many have disputed the fact that these stories are in any way true, there are those who understand why Asamoah Gyan would be so upset at having a reporter confront him about this before a soccer match. Either way, allegedly beating a reporter to a pulp is no way to handle this matter.

  • He should have answered the question by declaring no comment. Attacking a reporter doesn't make him look good nit worse. Meanwhile - rituals? Really? Still?
