Barack and Michelle Obama share emotional message to mark 27 years of marriage

The former president and first lady of the United States, Barack and Michelle Obama have marked their 27th year in marriage. 

The couple who got married in 1992 have been tagged as a typical role model for celebrity relationships.

In an open display of love, Barack Obama posted a photo of himself and his wife gazing at the sunset with the caption; “Like the Beatles said: It’s getting better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years!”

Mrs. Obama responded in equal measure with an emotional post of her own, “27 years ago, this guy promised me a life full of adventure. I’d say he’s delivered,” she writes. “Here’s to our next chapter of becoming empty nesters and discovering what’s next-while still feeling the magic that brought us together all those years ago. Happy anniversary, Barack.”

The couple are fond of each other and are known to enjoy the exchange of romantic messages on special occasions. 

Early last year on Valentine’s Day, Michelle published a Spotify playlist dedicated to Obama on Twitter.

‘Happy #ValentinesDay to my one and only, @BarackObama,’ the former first lady wrote. ‘To celebrate the occasion, I’m dedicating a little Valentine’s Day playlist to you!’

The songs on the list included major R&B classic hits from Diana Ross, Ben E. King, Barry White, Beyonce, Adele, and Janelle Monae.

Essence reports, Barack Obama met his wife (then Michelle Robinson) back in 1989 at a Chicago Law Firm where she was assigned to be his mentor. One month later, he asked her out on a date. Though apprehensive, Mrs. Obama agreed for lunch and a movie. After dating for a few years, they became engaged and wed on October 3, 1992. The Obamas have two daughters: Malia, 21 and Sasha, 18.
