The equipment that includes isodemic drugs and tricycles were handed over to beneficiary councils by Camerooon’s Minister of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taiga.
This move taken by the government is seen as a major innovation in the transportation of beef in Cameroon.
“This is a novelty brought in by the government to ensure that the quality and quantity of beef and other animal products produced in the slaughter house are well-transported and distributed throughout the country in conditions free from any food hazard,” the director of the Yaounde slaughter house Mr. Nfor Mohammadou Bawe told the press.
Before the donation of these vans, beef and other animal products from slaughter houses were transported by head loads in basins under unhygienic conditions. The Mayor of the Nkambe Council from the North West Region, Mr. Nfor Mbanta, whose council is a beneficiary, intimated, “The manner in which we have been transporting beef products by head load was not vey hygienic, but now, they can wash the meat in the slaps and immediately put them in the vans so that they will not be contaminated along the road to the markets.”
According to Dr. Taiga, the provision of these vans is an ongoing process that will not only end at the level of the 14 cities and councils, but it will be equally extended to all other councils in the Republic.
