Kanya King is a revolutionary. In 1996, the tenacious woman looked around her and realized that music of black origin was not as celebrated as it deserved to be; that, to her, was a problem. Instead of simply talking about the problem, Kanya decided to fix the problem. She began to work relentlessly from the bedroom of her home going as far as to sell her house in order to raise funds to make her dreams a reality.
As a young single mother without much financial capital, Kanya had every reason to simply give up her dreams, but she didn’t. Today, the MOBO Awards has become Europe’s first-ever award show celebrating music of black origin at a truly international level.
Kanya credits her Ghanaian father with teaching her the value of discipline and hard work. Get to know more about this fascinating woman through CNN African Voices.
