Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott leaves Adidas to become Jordan’s highest-paid NFL athlete

Three months ago, Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Dallas Cowboys, including $126 million guaranteed. The quarterback has made another big-money move with the Jordan brand.

The deal comes after the player announced that he has recovered from a dislocated and compound fracture on his right angle. The injury forced Prescott to miss 11 games in the 2020/201 season. “I’ve buried the injury,” the player said.

Prescott has signed a five-year deal with Air Jordan to become the brand’s highest-paid NFL player and its only quarterback player. Prior to signing for Jordan, Prescott has been with Adidas since his Pro Bowl rookie season with the Cowboys in 2016.

According to ESPN, the deal was negotiated by Prescott’s marketing agent Peter Miller of JABEZ Marketing Group and the Jordan Brand team. The deal does not only enable Jordan to showcase its footwear on the Pro Bowl signal-caller but also use the Cowboys standout in future marketing efforts, according to CBS Sports.

The deal also gives the apparel company added star power, analysts say. ESPN reports that Prescott will not be the only first NFL player to have a deal with the Jordan brand. Dez Bryant, a former Dallas star, inked a deal with the company when he was with the Cowboys at the end of his career.

CBS Sports lists other Jordan players in the NFL to include Bills receiver Stefon Diggs, Packers receiver Davante Adams, Saints receiver Michael Thomas, Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu and Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. Others are Steelers wideout Chase Claypool and rookie Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

Meanwhile, Prescott will not be the only athlete to leave a major apparel company. Face2face Africa reported last month that the Kobby Bryant estate cut ties with Nike after refusing to renew their contract with the brand. They cited dwindling sales and a lack of aggressive marketing by Nike to promote Bryant’s Mamba footwear.

Also, Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles parted ways with Nike in April and pitched camp with Athleta. Giving reasons for her move, Biles said she wanted to partner with a brand that truly represented women.

Inking a deal with Jordan is not the only notable move by Prescott. Earlier in the off-season, he was announced as the spokesman for Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since joining the Cowboys, Prescott has had multiple deals with Pepsi, Sleep Number, Dannon Yogurt, Campbell’s Soup, 7-Eleven, AT&T, and Beats By Dre.
