Cutting of a baby’s hair after three months as a passage right
Babies in Madagascar go through a ritual called “ala-volo”, or the hair cutting ceremony when they are blessed to see their third month on earth. A “tso-bolo” otherwise known as the one with the most beautiful hair in the family performs this ritual.
The “tso-bolo” cuts the baby’s hair into a bowl or plate. The hair is then mixed with tuberous roots like sweet potatoes and honey and is meant for consumption.
The baby’s family members eat this mixture. It is believed that this ritual allows the baby to be fully integrated into society.
