The first television was invented in the late 19th century and was not developed until the late 1920s. In 1928, the United States publicly announced official nationwide TV broadcast for everyone to be able to watch programs on the television sets. However, It took more than 20 years for African countries to follow the order and finally be able to set up and broadcast programs in English and any other popular or national local languages.
Despite having late television broadcasting, television sets were in Africa by the 1930s, belonging mostly to colonial authorities who found ways and means to be able to catch transmission of specific western stations.
Many African countries were able to set up their TV Stations a few months or years after they gained independence in the late 1950s, but a few were able to do so years before gaining their independence.
Let’s take a look at the four African countries that set precedence in the establishment of television broadcasting.
