Volubilis
This UNESCO World Heritage site has large Roman ruins and intact mosaics that have striking resemblance to those found in Italy. Volubilis was deemed the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Mauretania. It was named a World Heritage site in 1997. The area was occupied by the Romans, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Idrisid dynasty at different times between the 3rd century BCE and the 11th century. It takes a day trip from Meknes to get to Volubilis.
