Julian Hunte
Born on March 14, 1940, in Castries, Sir Julian Hunte, SLC, KCMG, OBE was the foreign minister of Saint Lucia from April 2001 to October 24, 2004. His political career commenced as Councillor in 1967. He then became mayor of Castries from 1970-1971. In 1987 he was appointed to the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia. In 2001, he killed two birds with one stone by being chosen to be in the Senate of St. Lucia and by becoming foreign minister. In addition to a career in politics, Hunte has also served as Chairman and Chief Executive of the Julian R. Hunte Group of insurance, real estate and packaging and storage companies, Chair of the Saint Lucia National Development Corporation, director of the Saint Lucia Development Bank, and the National Commercial Bank of Saint Lucia. Hunte has also played cricket at the national level as well as serve as an administrator at the national, regional and international levels. Furthermore, he was President of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association and of the Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control, and President of the West Indies Cricket Board.
He was bestowed an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1979 for his civil service and commitment to St. Lucia. He is now the permanent ambassador for St. Lucia to the United Nations.
