The Toyota War between Chad and Libya

If wars could be described as fascinating, this one is it, especially due to its memorable name. The Toyota War was named after the Toyota vehicles that conveyed Chad’s troops during the fight with Libya in 1987.

The war was fought in Chad and began after Libyan leader Gaddafi had invaded Chad in protest over a border dispute. Gaddafi also disapproved of Chad’s president, Hissene Habre.

In the end, US-backed Chad prevailed, costing Libya thousands of soldiers and some $1.5 billion in military armament loss.
