Political tasks have empirically been harder for black women even if they find themselves in countries where they are not racial minorities, such as in African states and the Caribbean.
While it is plain old misogyny and sexism they have to battle against in Africa and the Caribbean, in places such as the UK, Canada, and the U.S., racism makes a prominent appearance.
These problems are cultural prejudices that found themselves wired into the structures of the modern state. Hence, what we have is an institutional impediment to the potentially immense contribution black women make.
But as they always do, black women find a way to excel in political roles. Some, more than others, rightly argue and fight on the side of progressive politics that is sensitive to endemic social problems but courageous in pursuing ambitions.
Face2faceAfrica.com has identified five black women who in 2019 did exactly that.
We understand that some of your favorites may not be here but that only goes to show how many brilliant black women are pushing the boundaries in politics.
