Authorities in Florida have arrested a bride and caterer for allegedly serving the former’s wedding guests with marijuana-laced food. According to the Miami Herald, the arrests of Danya Shea Glenny and Orlando caterer Joycelyn M. Bryant come two months after the incident.
The wedding in question happened in Longwood on February 19. And the Seminole County Fire Department called officers to the scene to help with a medical call. Deputies said a wedding guest had called for an ambulance after “feeling weird.” And though the man said he had only taken food and wine, he said he felt like there were drugs “inside him.”
The sheriff’s office said multiple guests also mentioned experiencing stomach pains and vomiting, while others were not in the right frame of mind to give statements. They, however, signaled their intention to press charges if the food had indeed been laced.
Miranda Cady, one of the several guests who got sick at the wedding, told WESH that she thought she was having a heart attack. “My heart was racing and before I went to bed that night, I actually slept in my car right on-site,” Cady recalled.
Several other guests also told first responders they had consumed marijuana-laced food. Cady recalled a friend had a feeling they had consumed the substance.
“He’s like, ‘Are we stoned right now?’ And everyone was just kind of looking around each other laughing and we absolutely were. We were high as a kite, out of our minds,” Cady said.
The bride, however, denied either allowing or requesting for the wedding food to be laced with cannabis products when she was questioned by authorities, Miami Herald reported. The catering staff was already leaving the venue in their vehicles when authorities were also searching for them.
Glenny and Bryant were recently taken into custody after tests conducted on some of the wedding food items concluded they had indeed been laced with marijuana. They face felony charges including reckless tampering, culpable negligence, and possessing marijuana, per WESH.
