Three Africans have been ranked among the top “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” in Fortune magazine’s fourth annual list of individuals who are transforming the world and inspiring others to do the same.
The list includes Zimbabwean businessman Strive Masiyiwa, Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Ugandan Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) advocate Frank Mugisha who are ranked among other top global leaders, such as the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Pope Francis, African-American basketball star LeBron James, and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“All those on our list excel at leading effectively in today’s environment,” Fortune writes.
Remarkable Influence
According to Geoff Colvin, Fortune senior editor-at-large, the list ranks people who have been particularly effective leaders within their own fields of endeavor, including business, government, non-profit, sports, arts, and more.
The main objective of ranking these individuals is to demonstrate the fact that great leaders can be found anywhere, whether working on their own or at the helm of a giant corporation.
